  3. 03We never sell your data or put you on a marketing list.
  4. 04This website uses no cookies and no tracking.
  5. 05You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time.

  • contacts at law firms and other organisations that hire through us, or that we approach about our services;
  • anyone who contacts us through this website, by email or by booking a call.
03

What we collect

In shortWhat we need to match people with roles, and nothing more.

If you're a candidate

  • your name and contact details;
  • your CV, work history, qualifications and admission details;
  • your current salary, expectations and notice period;
  • what you're looking for in a move;
  • our notes from conversations with you, and interview feedback from firms;
  • the identity and qualification checks the law requires us to make before we introduce you to a firm.

If you work at a firm

Your name, role and contact details, and details of the roles you ask us to fill.

If you contact us

Whatever you type into our forms or emails, and the details you give when you book a call.

Sensitive information

We don't ask for information about your health, ethnicity, religion or other special categories of data. If you choose to tell us something like this, for example because you need adjustments at interview, we'll only use it for that purpose and only with your explicit consent.

04

Where we get it

In shortMostly from you. Sometimes from public professional sources, and if so, we'll tell you.

Most of what we hold comes directly from you.

We may also find candidates through publicly available professional sources, such as LinkedIn, firm websites and the Solicitors Regulation Authority's register, or through a referral. If we collect your data from somewhere other than you, we'll tell you when we first contact you, and in any case within one month, and point you to this notice.

Firms we work with may also give us feedback about candidates after an interview.

05

06

Who we share it with

In shortOnly the firms you've agreed to, and the services that help us run the business.

We share a candidate's details with a firm only after the candidate has agreed to that specific firm.

We also use a small number of service providers who handle data on our behalf, under contract and only on our instructions:

  • Formspree, which runs the forms on this website;
  • Calendly, which handles call bookings;
  • Fasthosts and Microsoft (Microsoft 365), which provide our email and file storage.

We may also share data with our professional advisers, or with regulators, HMRC or law enforcement where the law requires it. We never sell personal data.

07

Transfers outside the UK

In shortSome of our providers are based abroad. Where they are, your data stays protected.

Formspree and Calendly are based in the United States, so information passing through them may be processed there. Microsoft may also process some data outside the UK in providing Microsoft 365.

Where personal data leaves the UK, we rely on UK adequacy regulations, including the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, or on the ICO's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.

08

How long we keep it

In shortAs long as it's useful to you, and no longer.

  • Candidates: we keep your details for two years after our last meaningful contact with you, then delete them, unless you've asked us to keep you on file for longer.
  • Records we're legally required to keep about introductions and placements are kept for at least as long as the law requires.
  • Financial records are kept for six years for tax purposes.
  • Enquiries that don't lead anywhere are deleted after twelve months.
09

Your rights

In shortYou can see, correct, move or delete your data, and tell us to stop using it.

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the data we hold about you;
  • have anything inaccurate corrected;
  • have your data deleted;
  • ask us to restrict how we use it;
  • object to our using it on the basis of legitimate interests, and to any direct marketing;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, which won't affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

To use any of these rights, email hello@strandsearch.co.uk. We'll respond within one month, and in most cases there's no charge.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

10

Cookies

In shortNone.

This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking of any kind.

If you choose to book a call, Calendly opens in its own window, and Calendly's own privacy and cookie notices apply there.

11

Keeping it secure

In shortLimited access, secure systems, and only what we need.

We keep personal data on access-controlled, encrypted systems, limit access to people who need it, and hold only what we need.

If a breach ever puts your data at risk, we'll tell you and the ICO where the law requires us to.
