STRAND
I'm
About

Named after a street.

The Strand runs east from Charing Cross to the Royal Courts of Justice, where a good deal of English law gets made. A strand is also a single thread. We liked both meanings.

(A) Principles

Four rules we work by.

  1. Both sides are the client. The firm pays the fee, but the lawyer takes the risk of moving. We owe both of them the truth.
  2. Fewer, better introductions. We put forward a few people we've met and can vouch for, rather than everyone who might fit.
  3. Nothing without consent. No CV goes to any firm until the candidate has agreed to that firm, by name.
  4. Honest, even when it costs us.If a move or a hire isn't right, we'll say so, whether or not there's a fee in it.
(B) Background

From inside the profession.

Strand was set up by someone who has worked inside law firms, on the fee-earning side rather than the sales side. That shapes how we work.

We only do legal recruitment, and mostly for small and mid-sized firms. That's deliberate. It's the part of the market bigger agencies tend to treat as an afterthought, and the part where a single hire matters most.

In practice, that means
We read a CV the way a supervising partner would.
We know a busy caseload from an unmanageable one.
We can talk about the work, not just the job title.
